PhotoMath for Android – An App for More than Just Checking Answers
Late last year PhotoMath arrived in Apple’s App Store and in so doing sparked some good conversations about how students are taught mathematics. PhotoMath is an app, now available for Android, that allows you to take a picture of a math problem in a book and have the problem completed for you. The app will also show you the steps needed in order to solve the math problem.
The app is not perfect by any stretch of the imagination as there are many reports of it not working with all textbooks due to font variances, lighting variances, and other quirks that are difficult to account for. What is intriguing about the app is how teachers will adapt students having the app. As David Wees pointed out back in October, the type of math problems we give to kids will have to change.
